Symphyotrichum lateriflorum, Calico Aster
Calico Aster is...yes, you guessed it, one of my favorite asters. This one for its dark green foliage, shorter stature, and countless, little white flowers with multi-colored disks. If you want a late blooming aster that stays somewhat compact for, say, near a sidewalk, this could work. For an even short species, you could plant Heath Aster.
Blooms: white with pale yellow, then turning purple, disks, August to October
Height: 18 to 36 inches
Conditions: sun to pt shade, moist to medium soils
Calico Aster flowers are small, numerous and with variably-colored disks. |
