Symphyotrichum lateriflorum, Calico Aster
Calico Aster is...yes, you guessed it, one of my favorite asters. This one for its dark green foliage, its shorter stature, and its countless, little white flowers with multi-colored disks. If you want a late blooming aster that stays fairly compact for, say, an edge near a sidewalk or hell-strip planting, this is the one.
Blooms: white with pale yellow, cream, and pink disks, August to October
Height: 18 to 26 inches
Conditions: sun to pt shade to dappled shade, moist to medium dry soils
Calico Aster flowers are small, numerous and with variably-colored disks. |
