Amelanchier laevis, Smooth Serviceberry

Picture to Come!

Smooth Serviceberry, aka Allegheny Serviceberry, isn't at home in Hennepin County, but thrives just east and north, between the St. Croix and Mississippi River valleys and the boreal forest of Minnesota. It also shows in the Driftless Region of southeastern Minnesota. Will it do well in Hennepin? I don't see why not, but keep it from strong south and southwest exposures to protect from common hot winds in summer.

Blooms: white, late April into May
Fruit: red berries ripening red-black, July
Height: 6 to 25 feet
Conditions: sun to pt shade, medium soil
