Viola sororia var. speckled, Speckled Common Violet

Viola sororia, uncommonly speckled

Some Viola enthusiasts call this variety 'Freckles,' but I go with var. speckled, neither of which are established names, nor is the record that this Viola is any different at all from the Common Violet. Yet, this one stands out, it's a charmer, and looks great in the garden. It's stature is shorter than the common blue Viola and experience tells me it prefers less sun, but I've yet to find it in the woods -only where there is part shade.

Blooms: white with blue-purple spots, April to June

Height: 3 to 6 inches

Conditions: pt sun to pt shade, moist-medium to medium soils
