Carex brevior, Plains Oval Sedge

Plains Oval Sedge is another versatile, thin-leaved sedge of sandy, well-draining Minnesota habitats. This is a good one for disturbed sites too, as well as sand prairie, prairie, and savanna settings. I've read that it will also tolerate moist conditions, but I have yet to try it. Plant this sedge along with other sand prairie plants like Large-flowered Beardtongue, Junegrass, Blue Grama, and Butterflyweed, among others.

Blooms: June

Height: 12 to 30 inches

Conditions: sun to pt sun, medium to dry, well-draining soils
