Geum canadense, White Avens

A woodland plant, White Avens flowers won't commonly be seen against blue sky.

White Avens isn't one of the charismatic woodland plants, but it isn't one we should forget! Plant this as part of any woodland renovation or woodland wildflower garden. Grows well with nearly all the regulars, like Woodland Geranium, Zig Zag Goldenrod, Maidenhair Fern, Lady Fern, Jack in the Pulpit, Virgina Waterleaf, and more. Note the shape of the seedhead -rather like a crew-cut version of another Geum species, Prairie Smoke!

Blooms: white, May into July, sporadically thereafter

Height: 2 to 3 feet

Conditions: shade to pt shade, moist-medium to medium soils
