Cyperus schweinitzii, Rough Sand Sedge

Rough Sand Sedge, aka Schweinitz's Nutsedge, is an open, sparse foliage sedge for that hot, dry, sandy site where you've got Large-flowered Beardtongue, Blue Grama, Hoary Puccoon (if you're lucky), Prairie Sage, Slender Penstemon, Prickly Pear, and Butterflyweed growing. Can also be a part of a savanna-type setting. There is a lot of real estate in Minneapolis-St Paul, north into Anoka County and beyond where sand is common. This is for you.
