Scrophularia lanceolata, Early Figwort
Hennepin County's only native figwort (for sticklers, Late Figwort grows just to the south) is much like Late Figwort but for the bloom time, height, and to some degree, shade tolerance. Bloom is about a month earlier and it tends to be a bit shorter, but it is as adaptable as Late Figwort. As a pollinator magnet, it does so best where pollinators can find it -in sun. Easy to grow, great for photographing native bees and wasps.
Blooms: greenish-copper, June into July
Height: 4 to 6 feet
Conditions: sun to pt shade, sun is best for pollinators, moist-medium to medium soils
