Scrophularia lanceolata, Early Figwort

Hennepin County's only native figwort (Late Figwort native just to the south of Hennepin County) is much like Late Figwort but for the bloom time, height, and to some degree, shade tolerance. Bloom is about a month earlier and it tends to be shorter, but it is as adaptable as Late Figwort. As a pollinator magnet, it does so best where pollinators can find it -in sun, but this grows for us easily in a woodland setting, particularly at its edges. Easy to grow, great for photographing native wasps.

Blooms: greenish-copper, June into July

Height: 4 to 6 feet

Conditions: pt sun to shade, pt sun is best for pollinators, moist-medium to medium soils
