Lobelia cardinalis, Cardinal Flower


Garden grown Lobelia cardinalis, Cardinal flower.

Lobelia cardinalis,  Cardinal Flower, is named for the intensity of its red flower. This short-lived perennial can be found in lakeside, creek-side, moist open woodland and wet meadow settings within the far eastern Minnesota counties. It will self-seed where conditions permit and will do well in a part-sun location with moist-medium soil.

Bloom: red, July to September

Height: 4-5 feet

Conditions: part sun to part shade, moist, sandy or loamy soil, rain gardens and pond sides.
