Carex bicknellii, Bicknell's Sedge

Bicknell's maturing spikes.

Another good savanna, prairie and sand prairie sedge with loose clumps of dark green, thin blades and stems for medium to dry, well-draining soils. It is also known as Copper-shouldered Oval Sedge. I've read that Bicknell's Sedge will tolerate moist prairie conditions as well, but I cannot confirm that. A caution about sedge height -the larger end of the range speaks to the seed-spike stalks which often are well above the blades. This is also true for grasses.

Blooms:  May into June

Height: 24 - 42 inches

Conditions: sun to pt sun, moist-medium to medium dry, well-draining soils
