Scutellaria lateriflora, Mad Dog Skullcap

I first came across Mad Dog Skullcap when a woodland swamp dried down after a few years. It grew in the mid-day sun, with shady mornings and afternoons on the northern flank of the wetland. Although its flowers are small, their impact en masse is noticeable. The plant also has a great, full green form for most of the season.

Bloom: blue-purple with white throat, July into September
Height: 1 to 3 feet
Conditions: sun to part shade, wet to moist-medium soil

Diminutive flowers have an impact en masse.
