Polygonatum biflorum, Smooth Solomon's Seal
Twin flowers of Smooth Solomon's Seal
Smooth Solomon's Seal is a staple of the savanna-woodland understory or woodland edges. It certainly has found a place in traditional gardens, too. Surprisingly tolerant of drier woodland soils -great for a savanna setting, under white, red, or bur oaks.
Shelterwood's Smooth Solomon's Seal was started by seed. This species is slow to maturity, but my plants will be between four and five years old this spring.
Blooms: creamy yellow-white, May into June
Height: 1 to 3 feet
Conditions: pt shade to shade, medium to medium-dry soils
